WeCreate Strategy Council Members

The WeCreate Strategy Council comprises industry leaders from the NZ creative sector who provide strategic input to the Working Group’s activities.


Kevin Chapman has been in book publishing for over thirty years, working in New Zealand, the UK, Canada, the US, and Australia. He has worked in general trade publishing and book packaging, and prior to starting Upstart Press was Managing Director of Hachette NZ (previously Hodder Moa Beckett) for over fifteen years. Kevin has been heavily involved in publishing industry activities for many years.


Adam Holt is the Chairman of Universal Music New Zealand and a director of Recorded Music New Zealand.

Holt began his career in music playing in bands in Auckland in the late 70s and managing record stores in the early 80s. His recording industry career began at Festival Records in 1988 as a promotions manager before moving to PolyGram NZ in 1990. In 1992 he moved to Polydor Records Australia, a division of PolyGram and a leading label in Australian music in the 90s, before becoming managing director of the company in 1997.

In 2001, Holt was appointed managing director of Universal Music NZ and over the past 15 years he has been at the centre of the significant transformational change that the music industry has experienced. In his role Holt has worked closely with a number of great New Zealand artists who have enjoyed strong success both domestically and internationally.

As a director of Recorded Music New Zealand, Holt is a strong advocate for the promotion of New Zealand artists and for the New Zealand music Industry.


Stephen Knightly is a Board Member of the New Zealand Game Developers Association. He is also Managing Director of InGame, a game studio and gamification consultancy who specialise in educational, marketing and film and TV transmedia video games and apps, and marketing agency Pursuit PR. He has consulted to XBox, MTV Games, Grinding Gear Games, Discovery Channel and developed games for TVNZ, the University of Auckland, ACC, NZ Fire Service, Dairy NZ and NZ On Air.


Richard is a producer and film and television executive with considerable production, financing and co-production experience. He recently executive produced the National Geographic series Wild Survivor and the upcoming feature documentary Belief: The Possession of Janet Moses. Prior to establishing Libertine Pictures, Richard founded Liberty Films and his producing credits include the Fox-released Walking With Dinosaurs 3D, environmental documentary The Last Ocean, the New Zealand box office hit Boy, Under the Mountain and UK and German co-productions Tracker, The Strength of Water and River Queen.

Richard worked at the New Zealand Film Commission for three years as Head of Business Affairs. Films financed by the Commission during that time included Whale Rider, In My Father’s Den and Rain. Before this he worked in distribution in Australia for Beyond Films and the UK for the Feature Film Company. He is a former president of SPADA (Screen Producers New Zealand) and is a member of the New Zealand Film Commission NZSPG Committee. In 2009 he was the recipient of the SPADA Independent Producer of the Year Award. He is a graduate of the University of Bristol.
